TECH CORNER: HOW TO PREVENT APPS FROM COLLECTING YOUR DATA

A typical audit of your online identity is said to uncover over 300 elements of exposed personal information, scattered across the Internet and accessible to hackers and thieves. The hackers then take your personal information and sell it or use it for their own purposes. Typically they use this personal information to extract banking passwords and security codes from their targets. Identity thieves also use personal information found online to impersonate their targets and open fraudulent accounts in their names. There are steps you can take to protect yourself. Kim Key from PCMag.com lists five steps you should take to avoid these problems. Click Here to read the article "Take These 5 Steps to Stop Apps From Collecting Your Data Now".

Law Library Celebrates Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is celebrated every year in March to highlight women’s contributions to society throughout history. In particular, March 8th is International Women's Day (IWD), which is a day celebrated in many countries around the world. IWD is a day to honor the achievements of women, highlight female-focused charities, and promote women’s rights. Officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, the celebration has continued to grow. In 2023, the global theme of International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity. To celebrate this day, the Cleveland Law Library released a new episode of its Law Library Insights Podcast, which focused on women in the legal field and parental leave policies. Join our refence librarian, Kayla Fertig, as she reflects on how far women in the law have come, obstacles women professionals face, and where the legal field is heading. Listen now!

New Patron Copier

The Cleveland Law Library recently leased a new copier for patrons to use in the Law Library’s lobby. This new machine supports scanning to a USB drive, printing from a USB drive, and easy wireless printing. If you have an old copy card that worked with our last copy machine, please turn it in at our front desk for a credit toward copies on our new machine.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN BAR ASSOCIATION

The Cleveland Law Library congratulates the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association on celebrating 150 years of serving lawyers in the greater Cleveland area. Among other milestones in its history, many of you may remember the historic day in 2008 when the Cleveland Bar Association and the Cuyahoga County Bar Association combined to create the unified entity we now know as the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. As it is more affectionately called, the CMBA is a full-service organization that supports professional networking for attorneys, pro bono and community service programs, quality continuing legal education programming, and public education. As a valuable partner in the local delivery of legal services, the CMBA deserves to be commemorated on its illustrious history as a champion of justice in the greater Cleveland area.

welcome
