New Lexis Content: New content in the Law Library's Lexis staff plan will enable our reference librarians to provide litigation analytics about experts, judges, and attorneys. A Lexis search on one of these types of individuals generates a basic snapshot about the person, graphical charts summarizing selected statistics, and links to related content. For experts, the charts and content identify an expert's jury verdicts and settlements, expert reports, deposition and trial transcripts, cases, briefs/pleadings/motions, and news. For judges, this information includes charts showing a judge's dockets and ruling history (including cases by year and practice area & number of motions filed) plus links to the acutal dockets, jury verdicts and settlements, cases, briefs/pleadings/motions, jury instructions, and Daubert decisions regarding experts. Searching by an attorney's name produces charts showing practice history-dockets (cases by jurisdiction and duration) as well as jury verdicts and settlements, plus links to this content and the attorney's cases, administrative decisions, and briefs/pleadings/motions.

In addition, Law Library staff are able to search federal and state court dockets independently through CourtLink® on Lexis. The CourtLink® product allows wide flexibility in searching by keyword, litigant names, attorney names, docket number, judge, law firm, litigation area (e.g., criminal, family, probate), case type (e.g., criminal, appeal), and case status (e.g., active or closed).

New Computer In Conference Room No. 3: The Law Library is pleased to report that we have installed a brand new computer in Conference Room No. 3. This Room is perfect for members who need to conduct a private meeting with a client and/or compose documents with the assistance of their client.

FALL BACK! DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME IS NOVEMBER 6th

Daylight Saving Time may soon become a thing of the past. Forty-eight states currently observe Daylight Saving Time and adjust their clocks twice a year. In March 2022, the U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Act (S. 623); this bipartisan bill sought to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the United States. Advocates say that ending the Daylight Saving Time change would enable children to play outdoors later, boost local businesses, and reduce seasonal depression. Although the Sunshine Act is stalled in the House, some states have taken proactive steps. Georgia's governor, Brian Kemp, signed legislation in April 2021 making Daylight Saving Time permanent upon approval from Congress. The South Carolina legislature passed a similar law in 2020. With more and more support from around the country, it looks like the sun is setting on the Daylight Saving Time change.
