VIRTUAL DISPLAYS: OHIO STATEHOOD |
OHIO STATEHOOD |
|
Ohio legally became the 17th state with a February 19, 1803 Act of Congress. However, Ohio statehood is celebrated on March 1, 1803 because that was the date that the Ohio legislature met for the first time. It was not until 1953 that the United States Congress passed a Resolution retroactively making March 1st Ohio's date of statehood. | |
