CMBA CLE WALKING TOUR:
Exploring the Lakeside Courthouse Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM
In-Person Only at the Lakeside Courthouse, 1 W Lakeside Ave #202, Cleveland, OH 44113
Although many lawyers have been to the Cuyahoga County Courthouse countless times during their careers, this tour will highlight the significant legal aspects of the building affectionately called the "Old Courthouse." Join our head Law Librarian, Kathleen M. Dugan, for the last CMBA Walking Tour of the year as she guides attendees through the legal, historical, and architectural aspects of the Courthouse, including its inscriptions, sculptures, and paintings. Key stops will include the facade of the building (weather permitting), the Rotunda and Lady Justice, the Cleveland Law Library's Main Reading Room on the 4th floor, the murals on the second floor, and the Main Courtroom of the Eighth District Court of Appeals. The Honorable Judge Sean C. Gallagher from the Eighth District Court of Appeals will conclude the program with a discussion of the most significant cases which passed through his Court. The CMBA has sought one (1) hour of CLE credit for this program, and registration is located online at https://tinyurl.com/38zx7r4j This program is free to all CMBA BarOne members. |
MEMBER AND COUNTY PERSONNEL BENEFIT: Free Use of Law Library Conference Rooms & Technology Center Do you ever need space for a meeting, deposition, or mediation? If so, the Cleveland Law Library offers three (3) conference rooms and a larger Technology Center for these kinds of events. All four (4) options are available at no cost to private members of the Cleveland Law Library Association, as well as Cuyahoga County Court and agency personnel who need to reserve a room for work-related purposes.
All of these rooms offer strong WiFi signals, and the Technology Center is equipped with additional features such as tables containing outlets to plug in a laptop or tablet and USB ports to charge mobile devices. Because these tables are moveable, they can also be reconfigured in various ways to support different types of events. In addition, the Technology Center contains a wall-mounted projection screen if you need to show slides or web pages. You are welcome to bring your own presentation equipment (e.g., laptop, LCD projector), but we can set up our presentation equipment if you let our staff know sufficiently in advance. It is very easy to book one of our rooms, and we offer three (3) different options. • Call our friendly staff @ 216-861-5070 • Email the Law Library’s global reference desk @ lawlib@clelaw.lib.oh.us • Complete the online form located here: https://form.jotform.com/201354013150032 We hope that you will take advantage of this benefit to support your legal practices, Court functions, and other County work. |
NEW LAW LIBRARY PODCAST: CLE and Working the Polls As we roll out our calendar of CLE events this Fall at the Cleveland Law Library, our podcast Law Library Insights takes an in-depth look at the history of Continuing Legal Education (CLE), compliance, and alternative CLE credit opportunities. In Ohio, the CLE system has been around since 1988, when the Ohio Supreme Court created the Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Over the past 35 years, CLE has evolved by adding new CLE-approved activities and embracing the digital era. In a recent change, the Ohio Supreme Court granted lawyers CLE credit for training/service as election officials. This was a direct result of COVID19 and was specifically designed to help offset staffing shortages during the pandemic. This rule became permanent on Aug. 1, 2023. So, this November…
WORK THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY TO EARN CLE CREDITS • Click Here to apply online. Once your application is accepted, you will be sent a link to sign up for a required in-person class (3 hours). • Attorneys can earn up to 4 CLE credits for completing training and working the entirety of their Election Day assignment. |
