Ohio and Cleveland can be proud of many female lawyers who served as pioneers for women
lawyers today. Some prominent examples from history include these distinguished women:

Sara J. Harper:
1st African American woman to graduate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law; 1st woman to serve on the judiciary of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; 1 of the first 2 women to sit on an Ohio Court of Appeals (8th District); 1st African American woman appointed to sit on the Ohio Supreme Court (1992); founded the Sara J. Harper Library in the early 1990s at Outhwaite on East 43rd Street; retired Board member of the Cuyahoga County Law Library Resources Board (2009-2012)
